Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mathematical problem-solving ability of junior high school students on the material of Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV) in the context of Think Pair Share learning. The method used is descriptive quantitative with one eighth-grade junior high school student as a mini research subject. The research instrument consisted of four essay questions measuring Polya's problem-solving indicators: understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back. The analysis results indicate that students experienced the greatest difficulty in the understanding problem indicator (question 1) with a 100% incompletion rate, followed by evaluation and reasoning ability (question 4) at 100%, while in procedural questions (number 2) students showed relatively better performance though without explanation of solution steps. The dominant errors include conceptual errors, procedural errors, and mathematical communication errors. These findings confirm the urgency of implementing the Think Pair Share learning model that can encourage students to think independently, discuss, and communicate solution results systematically.
